Sydney passengers depart from Sydney in the evening on Cathay Pacific to Narita, Japan via Hong Kong.


Day 02, 09 Nov: MELBOURNE – HONG KONG – NARITA (D)

Depart Melbourne on the evening of the 8th November on Cathay Pacific to Narita, Japan via Hong Kong and arrive in the afternoon on the 9th November. Upon arrival in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. We will be met and transferred to our hotel. We will have our welcoming dinner in our hotel restaurant tonight.

Day 03, 10 Nov: NARITA – NIKKO – TOKYO (B. L. D)
Today we will travel to Nikko, a small city at the entrance to Nikko National Park. Visit Toshogu Shrine, Japan's most lavishly decorated shrine complex and mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. Nikko has been a center of Shinto and Buddhist mountain worship for many centuries and Nikko National Park continues to offer scenic, mountainous landscapes, lakes, waterfalls, hot springs, wild monkeys and hiking trails. After lunch we will visit Kegon Water Falls and Lake Chuzenjiko.

Day 04, 11 Nov: TOKYO SIGHTSEEING (B. L. D)
Today’s tour includes the Edo Museum, Asakusa Temple, a very popular Buddhist temple, built in the 7th century, the Imperial Palace, home of imperial family, which only opens to the public on 23rd December and 02nd January each year and the Ginza, Tokyo brand name shopping area, like New York’s 5th Avenue. We will finally visit the Shinjuku entertainment area to see the spectaclar neon lights.

Day 05, 12 Nov: TOKYO – HAKONE – MT. FUJI – KAWAGUCHIGO (B. L. D)
Travel to Hakone by coach. We will take a cruise on Lake Ashi, then visit the Peace Park and Owakutani Hot Springs before our visit to Mount Fuji. Climb up to the 5th station by coach, about 2300 meters above the sea level. Visit the Fuji Visitor Centre. Enjoy a hot spring spa in your hotel in the evening.

Day 06, 13 Nov: KAWAGUCHIKO – LAKE SUWAKO – TAKAYAMA (B. L. D)
Proceed to visit Lake Suwako, the largest lake in Nagano prefecture which features one of the world's largest geysers. After that we drive through spectacular mountain scenery to Takayama.We will first visit the Historical Government House (Takayama Jinya). The building served as The Tokugawa government's administrative building for 177 years (1692-1868). Of the 60 local government offices that were once spread throughout Japan, this is the only one still in existence. We will also visit the Old Private Houses area (Nationally Recognized Important Historical Building Preservation Area). The Town Village still stands on the east side of the Miyagawa River flowing through Takayama, and in the middle of it is Sanmachi, where Edo period houses remain. This district was designated as an area of Important traditional buildings by the Japanese Government.

Day 07, 14 Nov: TAKAYAMA – SHIRAKAWAGO GASSHO VILLAGE – KYOTO (B.L. D)
This morning we will drive to the UNESCO World Heritage listed village of Shirakawa in Shirakawa-gō (White River Old District). This village is well known for its houses constructed in an architectural style known as gassho-zukuri ("prayer-hands construction") style, which is characterized by a thatched and steeply slanting roof resembling two hands joined in prayer. The design is exceptionally strong and, in combination with the unique properties of the thatching, allows the houses to withstand and shed the weight of the region's heavy snowfalls in winter. Afterwards we will catch a glimpse of the Japan Sea, as we proceed to Japan’s ancient capital of Kyoto. On arrival we will visit the Gion nightlife area of the city, before checking into our hotel for our overnight stay.

Day 08, 15 Nov: KYOTO – OSAKA (B. L. D)
This morning we will visit the Heian Jingu Shrine and the famous Golden Pavilion before lunch, followed by a Kimono Show at the Nishinjin Showroom. We will then visit the Sanjusangendo Hall, where we will see 1001 Buddhist statues, in what is Japan’s longest wooden structure. We will then be transferred to Kyoto train station to catch the bullet train to Shin-Osaka station in Osaka.. Stay overnight in Osaka.

Day 09, 16 Nov: OSAKA – NARA – OSAKA (B.L.D)
After breakfast, we will proceed to Nara by coach. Visit the Deer Park and Todaiji Temple (great Buddha Temple). After that, we will visit Mt. Yoshino (Naka-senbon and Shimo-senbon only), where we can enjoy the beautiful colourful autumn leaves.

Day 10, 17 Nov: OSAKA – HONG KONG – MELBOURNE/SYDNEY (B. L)

In the morning, we will visit Osaka Castle and the Shinzaibashi area, one of Osaka’s major downtown areas, featuring many stores, such as the Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Centre and department stores. After a late lunch, we will be transferred to Kansai airport for our flight to Melbourne/Sydney via Hong Kong.


Day 11, 18 Nov: MELBOURNE/SYDNEY ARRIVAL
Arrive at noon at Melbourne/Sydney with sweet memories of Japan and its fascinating culture.

Tour price: $4,580, now $4,390 per person, twin or double share
Single supplement: $900
