17 Day India and Sri Lanka Double Indulgence Tour 2017 - 2018

Depart Australia on Singapore Airlines in the morning for Delhi, India. Upon arrival, our guide in Delhi will meet & assist at international airport and transfer to hotel. Stay overnight at Connaught Hotel**** or similar in Delhi.

After breakfast full day sightseeing tour of Old Delhi & New Delhi includes India Gate, Parliament House, Qutab Minar, Humayun Tomb, Jama Masjid, Chandani Chowk on cycle rickshaw & Red Fort. Stay overnight at Connaught Hotel**** or similar in Delhi.

Day 03: DELHI – AGRA (B.D)
In the morning, depart for Agra. On arriva, check in to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at hotel in Agra. Stay overnight at Howard Park Plaza Hotel**** or similar in Agra.

Day 04: AGRA (B.L.D)
Early morning, sunrise visit to Taj Mahal (closed on Fridays) built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan. This beautiful mausoleum is built of pure white marble and is an architectural marvel. Built in the memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. The building was conceived as a garden tomb with the mausoleum rising at the far end of the complex with the river Yamuna flowing below. Later visit the magnificent Agra Fort built by Emperor Akbar over the years 1565 -1573 with its maze of courtyards, mosques, and private chambers, followed by a drive around the city and the bazaar. Stay overnight at Howard Park Plaza Hotel**** or similar in Agra.

Morning departure for Jaipur en route visiting the deserted capital of the Mughals, Fatehpur Sikri. This city was abandoned due to political reasons. Among the principal attractions of Fatehpur Sikri are the large audience halls, palaces, the Mosques, the tomb of Salim Chishti, the Panchmahal, and the Buland Darwaza, which is among the biggest gates in Asia. Total distance approx 245 kms / 7 hrs including Fatehpur Sikri. Upon arrival check in at the hotel. Stay overnight at Alsisar Haveli**** or similar in Jaipur.

Day 06: JAIPUR (B.L.D)
After breakfast we proceed to visit the Amber Fort, located 11 kilometres away from Jaipur. En-route, visit the Hawa Mahal. Amber was the ancient capital of Kachawaha dynasty before Jai Singh founded Jaipur. Ride an elephant to reach the gates of the fort. In the afternoon take a walk through the colourful Bazaar of Jaipur and visit a factory to see the famous block printing work, which is a specialty of Jaipur. In the evening we drive through the new city of Jaipur and visit Laxmi Narayan Mandir, a Hindu temple built in white marble. Stay overnight at Alsisar Haveli**** or similar in Jaipur.

You are at leisure until transfer back to Delhi (approx.265 kms / 6 hrs). Upon arrival at Delhi, you are transferred to airport for your flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka. Ayubowan (May you live long!), a warm welcome to Sri Lanka. You will be met at the Colombo airport by a representative of the local guide and transfer to the city hotel in a Colombo. Stay at Mirage Hotel**** or similar.

Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel and in early afternoon leave for Cultural Triangle. Visit Dambulla rock cave temple built by King Walagambahu, in the 1st Century B.C. it is a World Heritage Site, and the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples.
Stay overnight at Green Paradise Hotel**** or similar in Dambulla.

After breakfast visit Polonnaruwa, the medieval capital and a world heritage site Polonnaruwa. It is the island’s medieval capital (built in the 11th and 12th century AD) with many of the ruins still in excellent condition. You will visit the ruins of the Royal Palace, the Gal Viharaya, the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bath and The Statue of King Parakramabahu.
Thereafter experience the thrill of an elephant back safari in Habarana. Once you mount the Elephant, you will be taken deep into the jungle, accompanied by a Mahout. During the journey, you will be able to spot occasionally a herd of wild elephants. A truly adventurous journey!! Later in the afternoon explore one of Asia’s most spectacular cultural sites, the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Only the fit and adventurous will want to climb the rock, but all can enjoy the superb ruins and fine views around the base. Sigiriya Rock Fortress is a World Heritage site of 5th century AD, built by King Kashyapa. Its home to water gardens, frescoes, ancient graffiti and commands an amazing view of Sri Lanka’s greenery.
Stay overnight at Green Paradise Hotel**** or similar in Dambulla.

After breakfast proceed to Kandy via Matale to visit a Specie Garden to learn about species and their use in Sri Lankan cuisines. Kandy which is known as the charming hill capital of Sri Lanka and lies picturesquely surrounded by mountains and the last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings was finally ceded to the British in 1815. In the afternoon enjoy some sightseeing such as the Temple of Tooth Relic, an arts and crafts work shop, oriental market place, a bazaar and a gem lapidary where you can see how rough gems (particularly the famous Blue & Star sapphires) are mined cut and polished using traditional methods. In the evening enjoy the Cultural Show. Stay overnight at Earls Regent Hotel**** or similar in Kandy.

Breakfast at the hotel and visit the elephant orphanage in Pinnawela, established in 1975, commenced with seven orphans. Today some of these orphans enjoy the fortune of seeing their grand children born in the same location. Rest of the afternoon relax by the, further explore this city of Kandy at your leisure. Stay overnight at Earls Regent Hotel**** or similar in Kandy.

After breakfast leave for Nuwara Eliya, known as “Little England”. See the mountains covered with tea bushes and cascading waterfalls. Visit the tea plantation and a tea factory. On this island the best tea in the world is produced. Watch the tea pluckers pick two leaves and a bud with deft hands. Then visit the factory where the all-important conversion to “made” black tea happens. Observe the process of manufacturing tea, tea grading and taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea. Rest of the afternoon is free to stroll around this beautiful Tea state, with breath-taking views of the valley, meadows, mountains and greenery in salubrious climate. Stay at Araliya Green Hills Hotel**** or similar in Nuwara Eliya.

Enjoy your breakfast in the hill country’s cool climate and in the afternoon leave for Yala. En-route visit Ella Gap where you can enjoy the marvellous view over the hill country.
Visit the Kataragama Hindu temple, where people of all religions come as pilgrims.
Stay overnight at Priyankara Hotel**** or similar in Tissa / Yala.

This morning all bout wildlife and the nature as you enjoy a jeep safari at Yala national park, which is the largest in Sri Lanka and is home to wild elephants, wild boars, wild buffaloes, leopards, bears, deer and crocodiles. Large flocks of migratory and indigenous birds are also found here. In the early afternoon leave for the South West Coast of Sri Lanka. Travel through Tangalle and Matara. See the salt Refinery & Fishing harbour in Hambantota on your way to Galle and en- route at Koggala see the stilt fishermen seated on poles mounted.
Later visit Galle Dutch Fort where you can enjoy a little walk along the walls and narrow streets of Galle Dutch Fort. Stay at Pandanus Beach Resort and Spa**** or similar in Bentota.

After breakfast day at leisure by the beach which has a long stretch of palm-fringed white sand, lapped by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and it will pretty much transforms your dreams and visions of a tropical paradise into an everyday reality. Stay at Pandanus Beach Resort and Spa**** or similar in Bentota.

Enjoy your breakfast at your beach resort and morning free time to explore the area at your leisure. Early afternoon drive back to Colombo; stop at Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery which was set up to help protect Sri Lanka’s turtles against the threat of extinction. Make a Colombo sightseeing tour including visit to Pettah, Colonial era remaining, Fort, Galle Face Green, and Independence Square, BMICH, Old parliament House and picturesque Beira Lake surroundings, explore shopping malls like House Fashion, ODEL etc. for your last minute shopping. Later transfer to the airport for your flight homeward to Australia.

Arrive in Australia in the evening. Your unforgettable India and Sri Lanka tour ends.
